The Decade of Transformation –
Optimistic Prospects of a Rethinking?

We are undoubtedly living in a crisis-ridden era, with the world – current events aside – becoming visibly increasingly unstable, especially due to the serious climate and energy crisis. Playing with fear has a demoralising and suggestive effect, and reinforces a pessimistic attitude – bringing with it the danger of populism, ideological blinkers, and nationalism. However, apocalyptic prophecies have accompanied human history since time immemorial, as has the recurring and insatiable need for change. In doing so, the current challenges facing our planet could become a story of human brilliance, if the scientific knowledge and technological developments, which will be discussed in more detail during the event, are critically applied for the benefit of all people.

It is high time for a new enlightenment in a shared world that we want to pass on in habitable condition to the next generation. It is imperative that we develop creative coping strategies with confidence. Neither humans nor nature are infinitely resilient.

We look forward to your attendance and contributions to the discussion.

Yours, Johanna Franz,
Secretary General of the Carinthian Dialogues.
