Born in Slovenj Gradec/Windischgrätz and educated, among other places, at the St. Paul Stiftsgymnasium in Lavanttal, Hugo Wolf is one of the most important song composers of the Austrian Fin de Siècle – just like Gustav Mahler, who spent his summer and composing vacations at Lake Wörthersee from 1900 to 1907. In the Domenig Steinhaus, their respective works enter into dialogue with songs, some of which have been sung for centuries in Croatia, Slovenia and Carinthia and have been passed down from generation to generation, as well as world premieres commissioned especially for this concert. These are by Timna Brauer, who feels at home in many musical worlds from jazz to musical to classical, Johanna Doderer, whose music has long been part of the repertoire in the world’s great concert halls and opera houses, Helmut Stippich, born in the Lavant Valley, and Akos Banlaky, who comes from Hungary and curates this concert series on behalf of the Carinthian Summer Music Festival.
