The New Austrian Sound of Music is the development programme of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. Young artists living in Austria are honoured by a jury of experts and promoted as musical ambassadors abroad. We present three of the award-winning ensembles each year.
Together, a broad spectrum of colourful sound innovations is elicited from their instrument by the members of the Spectrum Saxophone Quartet. The singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Anna Anderluh moves in similarly colourful, yet completely different sound worlds. Her music combines tender poetry with harsh social criticism. She provides musical accompaniment to herself with the use of unusual instruments. The Graz-based funk band Candlelight Ficus, which took third place in the Austrian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022, rounds off the evening’s programme with their typical mix of funk, soul and Latin styles combined with the sound of the 80s.
