The Vienna Musikverein have described the Aliada duo, consisting of saxophonist Michał Knot and accordionist Bogdan Laketic, as outstandingly talented and creative musicians. Since forming the duo in 2013, they have rapidly grasped the attention of the classical music world, filling their schedule with more than 150 concerts in over 35 countries on five continents. The artists have performed at renowned venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, Carnegie Hall New York, the Tonhalle Zurich and the Hermitage Theater St. Petersburg. In keeping with the festival motto of the Carinthian Summer Music Festival 2023, they trace laughter in a programme full of “small”, yet surprising pieces. Whether Johannes Brahms in his 16 Waltzes, which caused the Viennese critic Pope Eduard Hanslick to wink in amazement that a North German Protestant could compose such buoyant music; whether Aaron Copland in his Three Moods, in which bitterness turns to mirth, or Darius Milhaud in his furiously fast Suite about the braggart Scaramouche – all composers of this evening explore the humour and moods of man in their work.
